What is Sunset Yellow Lake (E 110)?
Sunset Yellow Lake is a synthetic food colorant used to give or restore an orange-yellow color to foods. It is defined in the Turkish Food Codex under code E 110 and Color Index (CI) 15985.
Where is Sunset Yellow Lake Used?

Pharmaceutical / Food Industry Use
- Lake (aluminum lake) form is insoluble in water and is used as a coating colorant in pharmaceuticals and dietary supplements (for tablet, dragee, capsule, and supplement product coatings).
- Synthetic food dyes can also be used in pharmaceuticals depending on their specification. If the product specification includes USP, NF, or Ph.Eur indications, the product's compliance with pharmaceutical standards is verified against these standards.
- There is no ban on use in dietary supplements; it can be used within the limits established for foods.
