General and Chemical Information
Vitamin B6 is a water-soluble vitamin that acts as a cofactor in various enzymatic reactions in the body. Chemically, it is the general name for compounds that are derivatives of pyridine. The Vitamin B6 raw material in our product catalogs appears in its basic form as Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Pyridoxine HCl). Pyridoxine Hydrochloride is the most commonly used, stable, and high-purity (100% powder) formulation in dietary supplement formulations.
Product Forms
Vitamin B6 is supplied for use in dietary supplements with different formulations having varying bioavailability profiles. The main forms found in our company's product catalog are:
- Pyridoxine HCl (Pyridoxine Hydrochloride): It is a raw material in standard powder form with 100% purity.
- Pyridoxal 5 Phosphate (P5P): It is the formulation known as "Active B6," recognized as the biologically active form.
Permissibility for Addition to Food
In accordance with the Regulation on Nutrition and Health Claims, vitamins and minerals that can be added to foods are specified in "Annex-1." Recent regulatory checks have confirmed that the addition of Vitamin B6 to foods (including dietary supplements) is permitted. This status is confirmed by our products being listed as "YES" in the Annex-1 list. For details, relevant regulations and current Annex-1 lists should be consulted.
Daily Intake Dose in Dietary Supplements
In the formulation of dietary supplements, the daily consumption amount specified by the food business operator (Daily Intake Dose) is important. Regarding this matter; in the "Instructions for Approval Procedures for Dietary Supplements" and relevant documents such as the List of Restricted Substances and Daily Intake Doses, it is observed that no specific maximum daily intake dose limit is specified for Vitamin B6. Consequently, a specific upper dose limit cannot be referenced during the product development phase, and it is essential for manufacturers to make their own formulation decisions.
Regulations and Restrictions
Approval is mandatory before dietary supplements can be placed on the market. Applications are made to the Provincial Directorates of Agriculture and Forestry where the food business operator is located (for imported products, the Istanbul or Ankara Provincial Directorates are authorized). On product labels and notifications, the daily intake dose of vitamins, as well as the amount of vitamins and minerals contained in the product, must be specified. During the approval process, the key requirements are whether the vitamins used are on the Annex-1 list and whether the specification documents (active substance, unit, amount in the daily intake dose) are submitted completely.
